Privacy & Browser Storage

Updated October 30, 2026

This page explains the information used by The Local Way, an independent Oklahoma guide created and curated by Matthew Ashworth. You can browse the guide without creating a visitor account.

Saved places, My Visit and preferences

Saved places, My Visit plans, visited-place selections, game progress, city and display preferences are kept in browser storage on your device. The city preference also uses a first-party cookie so the next page can arrive in the right city colors. Seasonal effects use local/session preferences.

The guide does not upload your saved list or itinerary to a visitor account. Choosing a share link can put selected places or plans into that link; anyone you send it to may be able to read the shared selection. Calendar exports include the details you choose to export.

You can remove saved items in the guide or clear this site's data in your browser settings. Clearing site data can remove plans and preferences. Separate browsers, Home Screen installations and the old pages.dev address may hold separate lists; they do not automatically transfer between addresses.

City suggestions and service requests

Cloudflare supplies approximate network-based location information with web requests. The guide uses it to suggest an Oklahoma city on entry; it does not request your device's GPS permission. You can change the city manually. The city-selection helper does not save or return your IP address or coordinates.

Weather, sports, event and other live features contact services to load information. Some requests go through the guide's server and others go directly from your browser, such as weather or externally hosted images. Those providers may receive ordinary request information, including your IP address.

Guestbook and private corrections

Guestbook submissions contain the name or nickname, city choice and comment you enter, plus submission time. Approved comments appear publicly with those details; Matt may edit or remove them. Do not include private contact, booking or payment information in a public comment.

Correction reports are stored privately for Matt's review, including the optional name, message, reason and place or plan reference. They are not published in the guestbook. These forms do not request a reply email address.

Submissions are stored in Cloudflare D1. Short-lived, pseudonymized network-address records help limit spam. Owner notifications may be sent through Resend. Submitted comments and reports remain stored unless removed by the owner; there is no automatic deletion schedule for that content. Contact Matt to request a correction or removal.

Private contact messages through Jotform

The Contact page uses a Jotform form. It requests your email address, topic and message, with optional name, city or area and a relevant link. These details are used to review and respond to your inquiry; submitting does not sign you up for marketing or publish your message in the guestbook.

Jotform receives and stores the information you submit, and sends private notifications to Matt. Loading the embedded form also contacts Jotform, which can receive technical request information such as your IP address and browser details. Its processing is covered by Jotform's privacy policy. The form does not request payments, file uploads or a Google account.

Messages remain in Matt's Jotform account unless removed; there is no automatic deletion schedule. Use the contact form and select Privacy request to ask about correction or removal of information you supplied.

Analytics, hosting and security

Cloudflare hosts and protects the site. Cloudflare Web Analytics supplies aggregate page-view and visit reports used to understand which pages are useful. A visit count is not a count of unique people. The reports shown to Matt do not include your name, saved places or itinerary.

Hosting, security and analytics providers process ordinary request information under their own policies. This is not a promise that no provider processes technical identifiers. The guide does not install Google Analytics or require Google sign-in.

The private moderation area uses a secure session cookie for the owner. It is separate from public browsing.

Links to other services

Maps, booking sites, affiliate links, merchant sites, calendar services and other external links follow their providers' privacy and cookie practices. Affiliate providers may use tracking links, cookies or other identifiers to attribute a qualifying purchase or booking. See our affiliate disclosure.

Cloudflare's practices are described in its privacy policy; Resend describes its practices in its privacy policy.

Your choices

Do not send sensitive personal information through the guestbook, correction form or contact form. None of these forms automatically signs you up for a newsletter.

You can browse without posting, choose cities manually, turn seasonal effects off in the Menu and clear browser storage. For questions about information you supplied, contact Matt. This page will be updated when the guide's data practices change.
